Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) – Days

Location: Carbondale, Illinois
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Generalist laboratory role including phlebotomy.
• No weekend shifts required; possible on-call as needed.
• Strong proficiency in Epic required.
• Preferred familiarity (not mandatory) with analyzers such as Abbott Alinity, ACL Tops 350, Gene Expert, Beckman Coulter, Torch, and Clinitek.

Responsibilities

• Collect, process, and receive specimens (blood, urine, fecal, body fluid) for analysis across all clinical laboratory departments.
• Evaluate and resolve issues related to specimen collection and processing for all age groups.
• Participate in evaluating new laboratory techniques and procedures, including personnel, equipment, cost, and reference interval establishment.
• Perform complex laboratory procedures, recognize deviations from expected results, and troubleshoot using scientific principles.
• Analyze quality control data and take appropriate actions to maintain accuracy and precision.
• Respond to inquiries about test results, methodologies, test specificity, sensitivity, and influencing factors.
• Monitor instrument indicators and temperature controls for laboratory departments.
• Maintain self-competency in laboratory skills.

Required Qualifications

• Medical Technologist with a minimum of 2 years of experience, including experience within the last year.
• Certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) through ASCP or equivalent.
• Experience as a Medical Lab Technician is also acceptable.
• Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system.
• Educational requirement: Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an Associate’s degree for individuals classified as grandfathered personnel.
