Description
Registered Nurse – ER (Emergency Room)
Location: La Plata, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: June 29, 2026
Work Schedule
- Night shift, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend required
- Holidays required as scheduled
- Possible floating within the system as needed
Unit Details
- Emergency Room (ER)
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
- Unit size: 47 rooms
- Documentation system: EPIC
- Scrubs color: Navy blue
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Maryland
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA only, required for all ED placements
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – as applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification – required for ED staff, updated annually
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Maryland
- Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- CPI certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- Education verification for highest level of education
- Employment history verification for previous 5 years
- Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
- Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
- E-Verify or attestation required
- Government-issued photo ID required
- I9 attestation required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol, updated annually
- Fit test for N95 respirator within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct–Mar)
- COVID-19 vaccine not currently required for this location, but documentation or exemption may be requested for tracking
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted)
- Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel plus Fentanyl) within 30-45 days prior to start
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam within 1 year of start, minimum 80% score
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start, minimum 80% score
- Age-specific competency exam, minimum 80% score
- Color blindness test required
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge (passport style, solid white/beige background)
- Completion of confidentiality agreements and corporate compliance documents prior to start
- Completion of computer system agreement prior to start
- Dress code review prior to start
- Badge application to be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
- Portfolio Epic training test-out form may be required depending on prior Epic experience

- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
- Floating within the system may be required
- Documentation and credentialing must be completed in a timely manner before start date
This position offers an opportunity to work in a busy ER setting with a defined patient ratio and requires strong emergency nursing skills and certifications.
