Description

Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Evening (either 11:00 AM - 9:30 PM or 1:00 PM - 11:30 PM) with flexibility to switch shifts as needed
Hours: 40 hours per week (4 shifts of 10 hours each)
Call: Required
Weekend Shifts: 6 shifts per 8-week block, including weekends and holidays
Locals Accepted: No (must live more than 50 miles from facility)
First Time Travelers: Not accepted


Job Description and Skills Required

  • Must hold CST certification (Certified Surgical Technologist)
    • Exception: If worked as a tech in New York prior to 2015, CST may not be required
  • Surgical skills and experience with a wide variety of procedures including but not limited to:
    • Bariatric surgeries (Gastric bypass, Gastric sleeve, Lap band)
    • Vascular surgeries (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm repair, Carotid angioplasty, Carotid Endarterectomy, Endovascular Aneurysm Repair, Femoral popliteal bypass graft)
    • ENT procedures (Direct Laryngoscopy, Radical neck dissection, Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, Tracheostomy)
    • General surgeries (Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection - Open/LAP, Hernia repair, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy)
    • Gynecological procedures (Dilation & Curettage, Laparoscopic assisted gynecological procedures, Cervical Cerclage, Bilateral tubal ligation)
    • Neurosurgical procedures (Craniotomy, Insertion of VP shunt, Laminectomy/discectomy, Lumbar fusion, XLIF)
    • Orthopedic surgeries (Carpal tunnel release, Closed/Open reduction of fractures, Spinal Fusion, Total hip and knee replacement, Bunionectomy, Hallux valgus arthroplasty/arthrodesis, Metatarsal surgery)
    • Robotic and minimally invasive surgeries (Colorectal Robotic Surgery, Da Vinci Xi Surgical System, VATS)
    • Urological procedures (Cystoscopy, Nephrectomy, Prostatectomy, Ureteroscopy)
  • Knowledge of decontamination and sterilization processes, aseptic technique, sharps safety, and Universal Protocol (Time out) procedure
  • Epic experience preferred

Required Qualifications

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification
  • Minimum of 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel assignment as a Surgical Technologist
  • Experience with bariatric surgeries including Gastric bypass, Gastric sleeve, and Lap band
  • Experience with laparoscopic assisted cases
  • Experience with vascular surgeries including Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm repair, Carotid angioplasty, Carotid Endarterectomy, Endovascular Aneurysm Repair, and Femoral popliteal bypass graft
  • Experience with ENT procedures including Direct Laryngoscopy

Additional Information

  • Must be willing to work call shifts
  • Scrubs provided
  • Locals are not accepted; candidate must live more than 50 miles from the facility
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position

This position requires a highly skilled Certified Surgical Technologist with broad surgical experience and the ability to work flexible evening shifts including weekends and holidays. Candidates must meet strict credentialing, background, and health requirements prior to start.
