Description
Registered Nurse – Night Shift (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Float to different units as needed within the organization.
- Patient populations include:
- Nephrology
- Urology (surgical and non-surgical)
- Benign hematology
- Medical/Surgical (M/S)
- Unit: East Tower 3 (27 beds) – Urology
- Shift: Night, 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Patient ratio: Approximately 1:4-5
- No call required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience
- Medical-Surgical and Telemetry experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Certifications & Competencies
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit (check specifics)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams may be required
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including:
- Social Security trace
- Counties lived/worked
- Nationwide search
- Sex offender registry
- Motor Vehicle Record (if driving is part of job)
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific code (3701.881)
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
- Education accreditation verification required for nursing degree from accredited programs (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
- TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test renewal
- Immunizations required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); mask required if declining
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Additional Facility Requirements
- Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policy
- Annual completion of orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually
- Proof of fingerprint completion required (physical receipt or photo of fingerprint cards)
Work Hours
- 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours each)
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with floating across multiple units, working night shifts, and proficient in EPIC and telemetry nursing. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
