Description

Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (4x12 hours), 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Hours per Week: 48 hours
Unit: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
Patient Ratio: 1:5
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospital
Unit Size: 16 beds


Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in District of Columbia
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical/Telemetry experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • One completed travel assignment
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Must have passed within 1 year prior to start, with an overall score of 80% or higher and 100% on lethal rhythms section; annual updates required
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Must score 80% or higher within 3 years of start
  • Color Blind Testing: Required (online or in-person acceptable)
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)

Health & Background Requirements

  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon, or T-spot) within 1 year; if history of TB, additional documentation required
  • Annual TB questionnaire required for all candidates
  • Immunization documentation required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 VZV vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
    • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years preferred
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana), including multiple specified substances
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept–March)

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information
  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years, including one from the most recent assignment
  • I-9 and E-Verify attestation required prior to start
  • Criminal background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including federal, state, and county searches
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to and during assignment
  • Facility-specific modules (SITELS) must be completed prior to start date
  • Photo for badge with specific requirements (clear, centered, no glare, solid background)
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement

This position requires a highly skilled RN with telemetry experience, strong cardiac monitoring skills, and the ability to float across similar acuity units. Prior travel nursing experience is mandatory. Compliance with all licensure, certification, health, and background requirements is essential for assignment start and continuation.
