Radiologic Technologist – General Imaging

Employment Type: Contractor
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 8-hour evening shift (2:30 pm – 11:00 pm)
Hours per Week: 40

Facility & Work Environment

• Teaching hospital with 231 beds, no trauma designation
• Imaging department includes 3 main rooms, 1 ER room, and portable imaging
• Patient types: heavy ER, trauma, inpatient, outpatient, adults, some pediatrics, ICU
• Patient volume: 20-30 patients per tech per day
• Outpatients are walk-ins with no appointments, leading to busy periods
• Patient ratio: 1:1
• Free parking available

Required Certifications & Licenses

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification
• Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) license
• Limited licenses are NOT accepted

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 1 year of general imaging experience accepted
• Acute care experience required; mobile x-ray only experience is not accepted
• General x-rays including chest and long bones
• Comfortable performing portable x-rays
• Fluoroscopy experience is a plus but not required (no fluoro cases on night shift)
• Operating room (OR) experience is a plus but not required
• Experience with C-arm equipment is not required
• For overnight shifts, must be comfortable working alone as the sole tech

Orientation & Support

• One week of orientation provided (additional time available if needed)
• Lead technologist available on some shifts
• Respiratory therapist and hospitalist support available 24/7
• Radiologists available during the day; after-hours service reads after 10 pm

Scheduling & Shifts

• Weekend rotation: every other weekend
• On-call not required but optional for travelers
• Holidays not required to work
• Time off requests approved through manager
• Shift times:

  • Days: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
  • Mids: 2:30 pm – 11:00 pm (evening shift)
  • Nights: 10:30 pm – 7:00 am
• 8-hour shifts only
• Schedule provided 1-2 weeks in advance on a 4-week cycle

Technology & Equipment

• EMR system: EPIC
• Imaging equipment:

  • General X-ray, ER, and portable units are GE
  • Fluoroscopy equipment is Shimadzu
  • GE PACS system (experience not required)

Additional Notes

• Scrub color: gray or gray top with black pants
• No floating required; only portable imaging within the department
