Description
Registered Nurse - CVOR (Winston Salem, NC)
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (4x10 hours), Monday – Friday, 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Call: 10 days/month including one weekend per month
Unit & Patient Population
- Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) with 3 rooms
- Patient age range: Adults and geriatrics (20s to 90s)
- Procedures include: Aortic and Mitral Valve surgeries, ASD, Redo Surgeries, Esophagogastrectomy, CABG (with/without valve repair/replacement), VATS, Thoracotomy, Mediastinoscopy, Mitral Clip, TAVR, Ascending Aortic Aneurysm Repair, Groin Exploration, Port-a-Cath Placement, Robotic Thoracic Surgery, Carotid Endarterectomy, IABP insertion/removal, Myxoma Removal, Pneumonectomy, Chamberlin Procedure, Tracheostomy, VSD
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience, with CVOR experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Experience circulating in the operating room
- Experience scrubbing in the operating room
Schedule & Call Details
- 10-hour day shifts, Monday through Friday
- Call required 10 days per month, including one weekend
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background checks required within 90 days of start, including local county, federal court, national criminal database, DOJ sex offender search, and education verification for highest degree relevant to nursing
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days and annual updates required
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not accepted at all facilities)
- Immunizations and titers required: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with facility-specific declination if applicable)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility protocol
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required (masking required if exempt)
- Required facility-specific documents include confidentiality agreement, education roster, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, medication safety training, hospital policies acknowledgment, and clinical education checklist for travel candidates
- Competency exams as applicable, including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (must pass with 82% or higher)
Orientation & Onboarding
- Interview required prior to offer
- Photo for badge required (passport style, white background, business attire)
- Corporate ID and I-Learn account setup required prior to start
- Completion of required online education modules and competency validations before or during orientation
Additional Notes
- No return to office (RTO) after booking allowed; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation
- Unit uses PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR communication tools
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for travel acute care nurses
- Performance evaluation required if worked with the agency over 1 year
- Radiation badge required if applicable (not typical for CVOR RN)
