Description
CVICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift Options: 36 or 48 hours per shift available
- Typical Shift: Night shift, 4 shifts of 12 hours (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratio: Targeted 1:2 ratio on 36-bed units
- Unit Focus: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) with telemetry, drips, and ventilators
- Scrubs: Navy blue required
- Floating: May float within specialty clusters or to nearby campuses within 15 miles
- Weekend/Holiday: Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays
- First-time travelers accepted; Ohio nursing license not required at time of signing
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1 year of dedicated CVICU experience required
- Level 1 Trauma experience preferred
- Experience with arterial lines, ventilators, drips, sheaths, dialysis, and drawing arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- EPIC electronic health record experience required
- Ability to read and interpret EKG strips; must pass an online EKG telemetry competency assessment before starting
- BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications required
- Travel experience preferred but not mandatory
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license (Ohio licensure primary source verification required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA certification preferred
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA certification required
- NIH Stroke Scale certification (updated within 12 months prior to start)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (must be passed within 1 year or completed within 72 hours of contract signing)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- E-Verify compliance required prior to start
- 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, national and state checks, and sex offender registry
- Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen including marijuana panel within 12 months prior to documentation due date; lab work must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
- Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness for duty and free of communicable diseases
- Annual health questionnaire and medical clearance for respiratory protection
- Proof of immunizations or immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination series, immune titer, or declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- References: Two professional references within 2 years, including one manager/supervisor or charge nurse
- Current resume or employment application required
- Skills checklist updated within 1 year prior to documentation due date
Additional Notes
- Overtime paid after 48 hours on 48-hour shifts
- Employer reserves the right to cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract due to low census, with 2 weeks’ notice and no penalty
- Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives
- No additional certifications such as PALS, NRP, or TNCC required for this unit
- Fingerprinting not required for this assignment
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required within 2 years prior to start
This position is ideal for experienced CVICU RNs seeking a travel contract with flexible shift options and exposure to a Level 1 Trauma center environment.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience within the last year
- Minimum 1 year experience with arterial lines (A-Lines)
- Experience with sheaths
- Experience with dialysis
- Experience drawing arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
