Description

Job Opportunity: Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (Night Shift)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:1 to 1:2
  • Specialty: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience (highest stated requirement)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required

Required Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA certification only
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – AHA certification only
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • All certifications must be current and from the American Heart Association (AHA)

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient in IV starts
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring
  • Competency with ventilator management
  • Proficiency in EPIC electronic documentation system (required)
  • Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)

Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
  • License verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
  • TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test renewal
  • Adult Tdap vaccination (not Td or DTaP) required; exemptions not allowed for those working with infants or pregnant patients
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, and rubella (with booster requirements if low titers)
  • Varicella immunity via 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
  • Hepatitis B immunity via titer or 3-vaccine series (signed declination acceptable)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 – 3/31); decliners must wear a mask
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Annual review and signature of dress code and hand hygiene policy
  • Annual acknowledgment of ethics and compliance policies (required for new contracts)
  • Confidential Fraud, Waste, and Abuse reporting training and certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Proof of fingerprinting completion required for subcontractors (physical receipt or photo of fingerprint cards)

Parking

  • Parking permits available for purchase through campus parking services (cost and options vary)

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system
