Description

Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical

Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
  • Overtime: Begins after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
  • Unit: 41 beds, Medical-Surgical population including post-surgical, UTI, sepsis, high fall risk, COPD, CHF
  • Patient Ratio: Days 1:4-5; Nights 1:6-7
  • Float Requirement: First to float within skillset; may float to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice
  • Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks; every other holiday
  • On Call/Call Back: Not required
  • Charting System: Recent EPIC experience required (checkoff class required)
  • Unit Environment: Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
  • Dress Code: Scrubs only; no competing health system or agency logos allowed
  • Attendance Policy: Three call-ins can result in termination
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required (subject to change)

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years strong Medical-Surgical nursing experience
  • Travel Experience: At least 1 prior travel assignment required
  • Trauma Experience: Level II trauma experience required
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Current active compact RN license
    • AHA BLS certification
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Skills:
    • Remote telemetry monitoring
    • Chest tubes, NG/PEG tubes
    • Straight catheterization/Foley catheter care
    • Ostomy care
    • Heparin drips
    • Blood and blood product administration
    • Tracheostomy care
    • PCA management
    • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Personal Attributes: Hardworking, resilient, adaptable to change, social and team-oriented

Additional Information

  • Orientation occurs bi-weekly starting 6/15
  • Guaranteed set hours per week except during holidays when the unit is closed
  • CNA support and experienced leadership on unit
