Registered Nurse - PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: Day shift, 5 shifts per week, 8 hours each (typically 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM)
• Schedule: No weekends, no call, no holidays
• Patient Population: Majority oncology patients with acuity ranging from outpatient to ICU level care
• Specialty Surgeries: Flap reconstruction (ENT, breast, others), thoracic, neurosurgery

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
• Minimum 2 years of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA provider or instructor level only
• Other certifications may be required depending on unit specifics (not listed here)

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply)
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
• Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
• Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
• Employment application and skills checklist required
• Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership role

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year, or TB questionnaire in lieu of annual test
• Immunizations or titers required:

  • Measles (Rubeola) - 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
  • Mumps - 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
  • Rubella - 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
  • Hepatitis B - Titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap - Adult dose of Tdap required (no exemptions if working with infants or pregnant patients)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
• COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Drug Testing

• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed for new travelers)

Competency Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
• Unit-specific competency exam required
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

• Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement
• Annual fit mask testing required for inpatient/patient-facing roles (valid fit test within 1 year of assignment end date)
• Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting training and acknowledgment
• Dress code and hand hygiene policy review and signature required for contracts signed 5/19/25 and beyond
• Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually for new contracts signed 11/7/24 and beyond

This position is ideal for experienced PACU RNs with oncology and surgical patient care expertise who have prior travel contract experience and meet the comprehensive credentialing, compliance, and health requirements.
