Registered Nurse – PCU (Night Shift) – Columbus, Ohio
Job Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 16 weeks
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 19:00–7:30)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics
- Patient Diagnoses: Primarily newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients
- Staffing Ratios: Goal 1:4, may be 1:5
- Schedule: No fixed schedule; self-scheduling requests accepted before finalizing
- Orientation:
- Week 1: Monday–Friday day shifts
- Week 2: 36 hours on-unit orientation with a preceptor
- Shift Rotation: May include days, nights, or combination based on unit needs; shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but not guaranteed to change
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Skills:
- Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience
- Telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- IV therapy and phlebotomy
- Blood product administration
- Central line blood draws
- Peripheral line care and PICC line management
- Starting IVs
- Computerized Charting: EPIC system proficiency
Preferred Certifications
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification (not required)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)
Special Focus Areas
- Infection prevention protocols
- Patient falls prevention
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including:
- Social Security trace
- Counties lived/worked
- Nationwide check
- Sex offender registry
- Motor Vehicle Record (if driving is part of job)
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required with specific Ohio codes; must be completed within 1 year of start
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Monthly monitoring of EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG databases
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) or chest x-ray if positive, within 1 year
- TB questionnaire annually in lieu of TB test renewal
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, and Rubella (with booster requirements if low titers)
- Varicella immunity via 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
- Hepatitis B immunity via titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1–3/31); decliners must wear masks
- Fit mask test annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 (specific mask types required)
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%; remediation process available)
References and Documentation
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership role (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application required, including education details

Additional Facility-Specific Policies
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting form required
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and annually
