Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Position Details

• Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room Circulator)
• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Call Requirement: Up to 8 weekday shifts and up to 9 weekend shifts (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) in a 13-week period with a 30-minute recall
• Patient Ratios: 1:1
• Weekend blocked scheduling
• Locals accepted
• Unit manager approval required for return to open (RTO) restrictions

Facility & Work Environment

• Level I Trauma Center with 11 operating rooms
• High volume of orthopedic, trauma, spine, neuro (including craniotomies), and general surgery cases
• Minimal pediatric cases
• Short Term Acute Care facility
• Teaching hospital
• Charting system: Cerner
• Free parking provided
• Scrubs provided for OR RNs

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of OR RN experience
• Circulate, scrub, and charge experience required
• Experience in general, orthopedic, spine, trauma, and neuro surgeries (level I trauma experience preferred; level II trauma experience considered if recent and at a similar or larger facility)
• First-time travelers accepted

Required Licenses & Certifications

• Active, unrestricted Arizona RN license or valid participating compact RN license
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA only)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (AHA only)

On-Call & Scheduling

• Call shifts required as noted above
• 30-minute recall time for on-call shifts

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Employment application covering last 3 years with documented gaps over 30 days (resume alone insufficient)
• Two professional references (one from most recent employer within 1 year, second within 2 years)
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SSN trace, sex offender search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG within 30 days of start
• Education verification (diploma or transcripts accepted if verification pending)
• Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to perform essential job functions
• Drug testing: 10-panel urine screen within 30 days of start, updated annually
• Immunizations and health requirements:

  • Negative TB test (PPD, Q Gold, or Tspot) within 1 year, updated annually; chest x-ray and TB questionnaire if past positive
  • Tdap vaccine preferred within last 10 years or declination
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or proof of 2 vaccines required; boosters if low titer or no prior vaccines
  • Hepatitis B: positive titer, 3-dose vaccine series, or declination required
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or signed declination form (mask required if declined)
  • COVID vaccine series or declination with facility-specific form
• Fit mask (N95) test within 1 year, updated annually; PAPR not an option for OR
• Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and fall prevention (minimum 80% score)
• Color blindness test required for all candidates starting 1/19/26 (100% passing score)
• Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, substance abuse policy, professional attire policy, job description form, security question form, travel information verification, and photo for badge

Additional Notes

• Floating between units is not required
• Radiation badge required for OR RN
• Facility allows up to 6 call-offs during the 13-week assignment
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Arizona
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
• Circulator, scrub, and charge experience in the OR
• Experience in orthopedics, trauma, and neurology surgeries
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS certification
