Description

Behavioral Health Registered Nurse Travel Job

Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Nights, 18:45 - 07:15
  • Schedule: Weekends only (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
  • Hours per Week: 36-48 hours
  • Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics with all mental health diagnoses
  • Unit: Behavioral Health split between two floors; rotation between acuity levels required
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 7 patients
  • Call Requirement: None
  • Float Requirement: May float to medical-surgical units as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of behavioral health nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in an inpatient behavioral health setting
  • Knowledge and experience with voluntary and involuntary commitment processes
  • MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behavior) certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with congenital/developmental disorders and profound impulse control issues
  • IV start and maintenance skills

Orientation & Training

  • Unit Orientation: 32 hours, including hospital orientation week one with mandatory daily classes
  • Documentation Systems: EPIC, Pyxis, SBAR communication
  • Special Equipment: Use of ObservSmart patient monitoring system, personal panic alarms, and public safety presence onsite
  • Scrubs: Navy blue required

Compliance & Health Requirements

  • Background Checks: Must be completed within 90 days prior to start, including local, federal, sex offender, and education verifications
  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days and annual updates required
  • Fit Testing: N95 mask fit test or PAPR training required within 1 year
  • Immunizations:
    • Negative or documented immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
    • Hepatitis B titer or signed facility-specific declination if negative/equivocal
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask requirement
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • TB Testing: PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray within 5 years and annual physician-signed TB questionnaire required

Additional Requirements

  • Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology competency and other applicable exams as required
  • References: Two professional references within three years (not required for non-clinical)
  • Facility Documents: Must complete confidentiality agreement, education roster, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, and other facility-specific compliance documents prior to start
  • Employee Account Setup: Must complete facility Corp ID and I-Learn account setup within 72 hours of contract signing, including logging into I-Learn within 24 hours of password creation

Notes

  • No call-offs or additional time off after booking allowed; violations may result in cancellation and denial of rehire
  • Team includes psych techs for milieu management and patient monitoring; nursing leadership and virtual clinical support available 24/7
  • Therapy team conducts groups 7 days per week

This position offers a focused weekend night schedule in a behavioral health setting with a supportive multidisciplinary team and requires strong psychiatric nursing skills and certifications.
