Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Winston Salem, North Carolina


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med Surg Unit, no cardiac telemetry patients)
  • Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour day shifts (06:45 AM - 07:15 PM), 36 hours per week
  • Patient Ratio: Target 1:6 during normal staffing; max 1:7 during high census or critical staffing
  • Scheduling: Self-scheduling
  • Orientation: 24 hours
  • Floating: Required as needed
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
  • Unit Systems: Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR
  • Scrubs: Not provided; navy and/or white colors required
  • Patient Population: Medical-surgical patients only

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACLS certification
  • NIH Stroke Certification

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Background checks required within 90 days of start, including:
    • Local county, federal court, national criminal database, DOJ sex offender search
    • Education verification for highest degree earned relevant to nursing
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (30 days if past positive TB)
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility policy
  • Required immunizations or titers with boosters if needed:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination form)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask requirement during flu season
  • Completion of facility-specific education modules and compliance training prior to start
  • Must complete medication safety training and provide certificate of completion
  • Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist (for NC travel candidates)
  • Must sign confidentiality agreement and other facility-required documents prior to start

Testing & Competency Exams

  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required; must pass with 82% or higher within 72 hours of start
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Color blindness testing within 1 year (except non-clinical)
  • Other competency validations as required by unit

Additional Notes

  • No Return to Origin (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation
  • RTO allowed up to 7 days max for auto-offer
  • Candidates must provide a passport-style photo on a white background for badge creation
  • Floating and weekend work are mandatory
  • Badge and facility access requirements must be met before orientation and start date
  • Must complete all required education and compliance modules timely to avoid start delays

This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with med-surg experience who are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with floating and weekend requirements, and who have EPIC experience. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
