Job Opportunity: IMC Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Contract Length: 26 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for an Intermediate Care (IMC) unit specializing in neurological and medical intermediate patients. The role requires strong teamwork, adherence to behavioral expectations, and strict compliance with call-off policies.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of telemetry experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
- One completed travel assignment; prior travel experience required (not a first-time traveler)
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in an acute care setting
- Intermediate Care experience
- Experience with Epic electronic medical record system
- Must be able to titrate Levo (levothyroxine)
Preferred Qualifications
- IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Port access/management, phlebotomy.
- Additional skills: Triage, ICP monitoring, conscious sedation, charge nurse experience.
- Certifications: CCRN, TNCC, CPI.
Work Details
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15).
- Patient Ratio: 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio.
- Unit Census: Maximum 24 patients.
- Float Requirement: May float to other intermediate units including cardiac intermediate and critical care (ICU/Stepdown).
- Weekend Requirement: Minimum 3 weekend shifts every six weeks.
- Orientation: 32 hours total (8-hour computer class plus two unit shifts).
- Dress Code: Navy blue and white scrubs (not provided).
- Call Requirement: None.
Patient Population
- Intermediate care patients with a neurological sub-specialty focus and medical intermediate patients.
Policies & Expectations
- Strict adherence to call-off policy; call-offs or additional RTO (return to office) may result in cancellation or denial of rehire.
- Must demonstrate teamwork and meet behavioral expectations in all interactions with patients and staff.
Required Pre-Employment & Onboarding Documents
- Background check (within 6 months for clinical candidates).
- Drug screening (9-panel, within 6 months).
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (titers or vaccination).
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask requirement.
- Physical exam (per travel agency standards).
- Photo ID (passport-style photo on white background for badge).
- Various compliance and confidentiality agreements.
- Completion of medication safety training and annual compliance training.
- Proof of logging into required learning management system (I-Learn) within 24 hours of account setup.
Testing & Competency Requirements
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with a minimum passing score of 82%. Three attempts allowed with remediation required after failures.
- Color blindness testing within 1 year.
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam (per travel agency standards).
Additional Notes
- No return to office (RTO) after booking allowed.
- EPIC test-out option available for experienced candidates to start earlier onsite.
- Candidates must provide interview availability promptly; manager interview required before offer.
This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with neurological and intermediate care expertise who are comfortable with telemetry and complex patient care in a fast-paced environment.
