Job Opportunity: Cardiac Services Interventional Cath Lab Tech

Position Details

• Employment Type: Contractor
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Rotating shifts including days and mid shifts; 8- or 12-hour shifts (examples: 6:00-14:30, 11:00-19:30, 12:00-20:30, or 6:00-18:30)
• Hours per Week: 40
• Call Requirements:

  • Call shifts scheduled approximately every 2-3 months, lasting 7 days (Friday to Friday)
  • Call shift hours: 12:00-20:30, with on-call coverage overnight until 6:00 AM
  • 30-minute response time expected during call
• Weekend Work: Occasional weekends scheduled or call coverage; worst case is call every 2 months
• Holiday Work: Typically, travelers do not work holidays
• Time Off: 7 days of time off can be approved during the contract
• Orientation: 1 week

Facility & Work Environment

• Level III Trauma Center with Level III NICU and Comprehensive Stroke Center designation
• Magnet designated facility
• Fast-paced, high acuity Cath Lab with 11 dedicated Cath Lab labs (out of 15 total labs shared with EP and Hybrid)
• Approximately 24-40 cases per day
• Adult patient population only (no pediatrics)
• Patient ratio: 1:1

Patient Care & Procedures

• Cath Lab procedures include:

  • Diagnostic and interventional cases: Right and Left Heart Catheterizations (RHC, LHC), STEMI/NSTEMI, CTO, valvuloplasty, Cardiomems, biopsies, atherectomies, staged PCI, IABP, Impella
  • ECMO experience preferred
  • Peripheral diagnostic and interventional cases, including fistulograms
• Hybrid cases experience preferred but not required (AAA grafts, thoracic grafts, clips, TAVRs, Watchman)

Required Certifications & Licenses

• For Registered Nurses (RN): BLS, ACLS; NIHSS preferred
• For Registered Technologists (RTR): BLS, ACLS, ARRT(R), state license; RCIS preferred

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Cath Lab Technologist license in Wisconsin
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Cath Lab Technologist
• Cath Lab Technologist experience within the last year
• Completion of at least one travel assignment
• BLS certification
• ACLS certification
• ARRT (R) certification

Support & Resources

• Housekeeping handles room turnover
• Storeroom staff manage supplies; rooms stocked by night shift Cath Lab employees
• Transporter available during the day (6:30 AM - 8:00 PM)
• Receptionist/HUC available 6:00 AM - 8:00 PM
• Charge nurse/Lead Tech present but generally not involved in cases
• Respiratory Therapist available 24/7 to manage ventilated patients in lab
• Hospitalist and Cardiology teams available 24/7
• Critical Response Team available for codes

Equipment & Systems

• Electronic Health Record: EPIC
• Infusion pumps: Alaris
• Medication dispensing: Pyxis
• Imaging: GE C-arms, Volcano, St. Jude, Alphavac, Angiovac, EKOS, Anari (experience with some equipment not required)
• Hemodynamic monitoring: GE Pruka (Maclab)
• PACS: Fuji and ProSolv
• IABP device: Maquet
