Respiratory Therapist (Cardiopulmonary) - Contract in Waimea, Hawaii

Job Description

• Work independently in the respiratory therapy unit of a hospital.
• Provide respiratory care to patients with respiratory diseases and disorders, including critically ill, pediatric, and neonatal patients.
• Perform respiratory tests and treatments according to physician orders.
• Work shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities

• Initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation and life support systems, including emergency intubation and ventilator adjustments.
• Participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and airway management.
• Assess and evaluate patients’ respiratory status using clinical data, lab results, and imaging.
• Recommend treatment methods, medications, equipment, and therapy duration to physicians.
• Administer age-specific respiratory treatments and monitor patient responses.
• Perform chest physiotherapy including postural drainage, percussion, and vibration.
• Conduct pulmonary function testing and pulse oximetry monitoring.
• Provide patient and family education on respiratory treatments and disease management.
• Assist with cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and instruct patients on exercises and medication monitoring.
• Perform electrode placement and monitoring for electroencephalogram (EEG) and polysomnography (sleep studies).
• Maintain safety, infection control, and confidentiality standards.
• Clean, sterilize, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment; perform minor repairs.
• Participate in training and educational programs as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Hawaii
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
• Recent Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
