Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – CVICU (Cardiac ICU)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- 36 hours per week
- Up to 6 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule period (Saturday/Sunday for dayshift, Friday/Saturday for nightshift)
- Rotating holidays
- Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
Patient Care
- Estimated patient ratios: 1:1 to 1:2
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiac ICU experience preferred (use higher if discrepancy found)
- Prior travel experience preferred but not required
- Skills required:
- IV start
- Telemetry (Tele)
- Ventilator management
- Swan-Ganz catheter (SWANZ)
- Conscious sedation
- Balloon pumps
- Pulmonary artery (PA) lines
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system required
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Ohio
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted (no letter of completion)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI accepted (no letter of completion)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exam required
- NURSYS license verification required
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG monthly monitoring
- Fingerprinting: Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start, with specific code 3701.881
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start (or TB questionnaire)
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1–3/31)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
- Fit mask test required annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 and beyond
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
- Employment application required including education verification

- Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual, dress code, hand hygiene, ethics and compliance policies, and fraud/waste/abuse training
- Background check and fingerprinting results must be clear prior to start; pending fingerprint attestation allowed under specific conditions
- Parking permits available for purchase (costs and options subject to change)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Current ACLS certification
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Proficient in telemetry (Tele) monitoring
- Experience with ventilator management
- Skilled in Swan-Ganz catheter (SWANZ) care
- Experience with conscious sedation
- Skilled in intra-aortic balloon pump (balloon pumps) management
- Experience with pulmonary artery (PA) lines
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Notes
- Candidates must be prepared to complete fingerprinting at approved locations; results may take 1-2 weeks or longer if done by mail
- Facility uses EPIC system; prior experience mandatory
- Floating to other units of similar or lower acuity is required
- This position involves working in a high-acuity cardiac ICU environment with advanced monitoring and interventions
