Description

Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Liberal, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Discipline: Registered Nurse
  • Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Unit: Labor and Delivery with 10 LDRP beds, 4 GYN beds, Post-op, 14 Well-baby beds, and 3 Special Care Nursery beds
  • Patient Volume: Approximately 900 deliveries per year
  • Team: 2 OB/GYN doctors and 3 pediatricians
  • Floating: Required occasionally (expected 2-3 times during the 13-week contract) to Medical-Surgical, ICU, and ER
  • Weekends: Every other weekend required
  • Call: Not required
  • Block Scheduling: Allowed and open for review
  • Locals Allowed: Yes (with a rate adjustment)
  • Radius Restriction: 80 miles
  • First Time Travelers: Accepted

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Kansas
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID and driver’s license must be carried during work hours
  • Social Security card required
  • Background checks:
    • 7-year criminal background check within one year of start, updated annually
    • Criminal background check within 30 days of start
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Primary source verification of nursing license (NURSYS verification required)
  • Proof of 2 clinical references (hospital evaluations accepted)
  • Complete employment application/resume
  • Performance evaluations if previously worked over 1 year with the facility
  • Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Initial physical exam and annual updates attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (may be completed onsite if necessary)
  • Immunizations and titers required or acceptable declinations for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (declinations accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; annual updates required
  • Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
  • Drug screening:
    • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
    • Urine drug screen required onsite on first day

Additional Notes

  • Routine COVID-19 testing protocols apply based on community transmission levels; vaccinated staff may be exempt from routine testing
  • Facility-specific forms and acknowledgments must be signed prior to start, including emergency data sheet, ethical concern form, authorization to release information, standards of behavior, and COVID-19 exemption/accommodation forms if applicable

This position offers a structured night shift schedule in a busy Labor and Delivery unit with opportunities to float to other critical care areas. It is suitable for RNs with at least 2 years of experience and required certifications, who are comfortable with occasional floating and weekend work every other week. First-time travel nurses are welcome.
