Description
Certified Surgical First Assistant - Travel/Contract
Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM (4x10 hour shifts, 40 hours/week)
On-Call: Weekend/holiday rotation, one weekend every 8 weeks (both Saturday and Sunday, 6:30 AM – 3:30 PM)
Job Description
- Provide surgical first assist services in acute inpatient and outpatient operating rooms.
- Surgery case types include bariatrics, orthopedic/spine, total joints, robotics, thoracic, ankle fusion, trauma, urology, endocrine surgery, and use of electrosurgical units.
- Scrubs provided.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Surgical First Assistant.
- Surgical First Assistant experience within the last year.
- Completion of at least one travel assignment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Experience in inpatient settings.
- Experience in outpatient settings.
Additional Requirements
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years.
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information.
- Criminal background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
- Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana).
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform work without accommodations and free from communicable disease.
- Immunization and health documentation including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year.
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years preferred.
- Documentation of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) and varicella immunity or vaccination.
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season.
- N95 fit test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete on-site if needed).
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start.
- Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency testing as required.
- On-call and weekend work as specified.
