Description

Registered Nurse – CVICU

Location: Largo, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (07:30 – 20:00)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) setting.
  • Patient diagnoses include:
    • Cardiac Surgery: CABG, valve procedures, combined CABG/valve surgeries
    • Coronary Artery Disease: STEMI, NSTEMI, AFIB with RVR, cardiogenic shock
    • Vascular procedures: peripheral bypasses, EVAR
    • Thoracic procedures: VATS
  • Schedule requires working every other weekend and holidays as scheduled.
  • Floating required within the specialty, sister units, and lower acuity areas as needed.
  • Open to first-time travelers with extensive CVICU/open heart experience (minimum 2+ years).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland
  • Minimum 2 years of Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) nursing experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year criminal search, SSN trace, nationwide and county checks, sex offender registry, OFAC, education verification, and state-specific exclusions.
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug test within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start.
  • Immunizations and titers required (must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing):
    • TB testing (QGOLD, TSPOT, or 2-step PPD)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if applicable)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or vaccination proof)
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination; series not accepted)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (for 2025-26 season)
  • COVID vaccination not required for this location but documentation or declination collected for tracking.
  • Required facility-specific documents include:
    • Photo for badge (passport style with solid background)
    • Signed job description and confidentiality agreements
    • Badge application (time sensitive, within 72 hours of signing)
    • Dress code review
    • Latex allergy questionnaire
  • Competency exams as applicable, including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, and age-specific competency exams.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training or equivalent as required by unit.

Additional Notes

  • Floating may include sister units and lower acuity areas.
  • Candidate must be prepared to work holidays as scheduled.
  • Prior travel experience is not required but first-time travelers must have extensive CVICU/open heart experience.
  • All documentation and compliance requirements must be met prior to start date.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized cardiac intensive care environment with a defined schedule and comprehensive credentialing requirements.
