Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - IMC (Intermediate Care)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work on an Intermediate Care unit specializing in neurological and medical intermediate patients.
  • Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients; unit max census 24 patients.
  • Night shifts available: 12-hour shifts from 18:45 to 07:15.
  • Shift options include 36 or 48 hours per week.
  • Floating required to other intermediate and critical care areas.
  • Weekend requirement: 3 weekends every 6 weeks (6 weekend shifts total).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.
  • Minimum 2 years of telemetry experience, with telemetry experience within the last year.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Current ACLS certification.
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Intermediate Care nursing experience.
  • Neurology nursing experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skills in triage, intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, conscious sedation, and charge nurse experience.
  • Certifications such as CCRN, TNCC, and CPI are preferred.

Orientation & Training

  • Unit orientation: 32 hours (8 hours computer class + 2 shifts on unit).
  • Must complete medication safety and other required facility-specific training modules.
  • Scrubs: Navy blue and white combinations allowed.

Patient Population

  • Intermediate care patients with neurological sub-specialty and medical intermediate conditions.

Systems Used

  • PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR communication tools.

Scheduling

  • Schedule is made to fill gaps based on unit needs.
  • Interview with manager required before offer.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including local, federal, and national criminal databases required within 90 days of start.
  • Education verification for highest degree earned.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, physical within 30 days required.
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training required.
  • Negative drug screen within 30 days of start.
  • Immunizations and titers required: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination).
  • TB testing: PPD, Qgold, or Tspot within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray within 5 years and physician-signed TB questionnaire required.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required.
  • Must complete annual compliance training and facility-specific education modules.
  • Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation checklist (for North Carolina travel candidates).
  • Must sign confidentiality agreement and other facility policies prior to start.
  • Must upload a passport-style photo for badge creation (specific photo requirements apply).

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must provide interview availability within 72 hours of submission.
  • Candidates must complete the Corp ID and I-Learn account setup within 24 hours of receiving instructions to avoid start delays.
  • Floating to other units is mandatory.
  • Weekend shifts are required as part of the schedule.
  • Strict adherence to call-off policy is enforced; violations may lead to cancellation.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam must be passed with a minimum score of 82% within 72 hours of assignment start.
