Registered Nurse (Neuro ICU) - Illinois
Location
- City: Peoria, IL
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Department: Neuro ICU
- Unit size: 18 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
- Shift length: 12 hours (day shift)
- Hours per week: 36
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: Rotating every other holiday
- Orientation: 20 hours (one 8-hour shift and one 12-hour shift)
- Floating: Travelers float first; may float to intermediate (1:3 ratio) or general floors (1:4 ratio)
Patient Population & Care
- Common diagnoses: Ventriculostomy patients, strokes (with/without tPA), post-craniectomy care
- Common procedures/skills: Ventriculostomy care, NIH Stroke Scale certification, ventilator management, arterial and central lines, acute stroke management, tPA administration
- Drip management: RNs are required to titrate drips as ordered by physicians; variety of drips used
- Respiratory therapy equipment: RNs troubleshoot vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow devices
- Telemetry: Phillips monitors used; nurses read and interpret cardiac strips; tele tech staffed every shift
- Support staff: Nurse aides/patient care techs present with a 9:1 ratio; charge nurse and house supervisor available (charge nurse may take assignments if staffing requires)
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
Licensure & Compliance
- Active Illinois RN license required or proof that application process has been initiated
- Must comply with drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
Additional Notes
- Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours
- Call off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty
- Travelers are prioritized for floating assignments due to the high level of care on this unit
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- BLS and ACLS certifications
- Experience with neuro ICU patient care including ventilators, lines, stroke management, and titrating drips
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
- Willingness to float to other units as needed
This position is ideal for RNs with neuro ICU experience seeking a 13-week contract in a high-acuity ICU setting with a structured orientation and supportive team environment.
