Description

Behavioral Health Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Big Spring, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 8:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on an Adult Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit
  • Patient ratio approximately 1:8
  • Every Other Weekend (EOW) schedule
  • Floating within scope of practice as needed
  • Start date expected within 3-5 weeks from hire

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Minimum 2 years of Behavioral Health nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Prior travel nursing experience

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) with consistent legal name across all documents
  • Social Security Card with matching legal name
  • Background Check: 7-year check required within 30 days of start, including federal, statewide, counties, education verification, and international search if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification and diploma submission as needed
  • NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start
  • Facility-specific forms and acknowledgments (e.g., Code of Conduct, Confidentiality Statement, Health Record Form, Orientation materials) must be completed prior to start
  • Passport-style photo for badge

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
  • Fit mask test within 6 months prior to start, annual updates required (accepted masks: 3M 1860 and 1860S)
  • Immunizations and titers required within 72 hours of contract signing:
    • TDAP (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis) within 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (QGold, TSpot, or 2 PPDs within 1 year)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if titers negative/equivocal
    • Hepatitis B: positive titer or completed series; declination form accepted if no positive titer
    • Varicella: positive titer, 2 vaccines, or proof of chickenpox disease; boosters required if titers negative/equivocal
  • Drug testing required within 30 days of start, including panel for amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoid, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine, methadone, propoxyphene
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination form required during flu season (Oct 31 - Mar 31)
  • COVID initial vaccination series required; boosters not required

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references within the last 3 years
  • Resume or employment application copy required
  • Annual updates required for skills checklist and orientation safety manual acknowledgment

Notes

  • Floating assignments will be within the scope of Behavioral Health nursing practice
  • Legal name must be consistent across all documentation; discrepancies require immediate reporting
  • Facility may provide on-site options for certain certifications if not currently held (e.g., NRP Advanced Provider)
  • Pass/fail remediation offered same day during orientation if needed
