Description
Medical Surgical Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours each; 19:00 - 7:30)
- Hours per Week: 36 (option for 48 hours available)
- Orientation: Must be available for the first 2 weeks for orientation
- Float: Will float to other Medical-Surgical units approximately once per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Patient Ratio:
- Nights: 1:5-6 patients
- May flex to 7-8 patients with LPN support
- Patient Population: Mix of medical patients and specialties including ortho/neurovascular, cardio/pulmonary, GI, urology, hysterectomies, and mastectomies
- Work Environment: Must be willing to work with a variety of staff (RNs, LPNs, Techs)
- Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed or approved at this time
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
- Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search from age 18
- Must include SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, statewide searches, education verification, and MVR search for Home Health
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Fingerprinting: Michigan LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions; not specifically required for this role unless assigned to specified units
- Education Verification: Copy of highest degree or diploma required
- Employment Application: Complete with full 7 years work history, no gaps, dated MM/YYYY
- Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually for applicable unit
- References: One professional reference required
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start
- Drug Testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start (instant/rapid acceptable if 10-panel)
- Immunizations & Testing:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Proof of 1 prior Tdap vaccine required
- Negative TB test (PPD or Q Gold/Tspot) within 30 days of start; if positive, chest x-ray and TB questionnaire required
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; exemptions not accepted
- Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or facility declination required
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination: Required for candidates starting after November 1, or approved medical/spiritual exemption on file by December 1
- Fit Testing: Required on-site for certain clinical roles; not required for this RN role unless specified by unit
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required
