Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Intermediate Care (IMC)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Patient population: Intermediate care unit with a neurological sub-specialty and medical intermediate patients.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
  • Average daily census: Up to 24 patients
  • Shift: Night shifts, 12 hours (18:45 - 07:15), with 36 and 48-hour shifts offered
  • Floating: Required to float to other intermediate and critical care areas
  • Weekend requirement: 3 weekends every 6 weeks (6 weekend shifts total)
  • Scheduling: Per unit needs, designed to fill gaps
  • Orientation: 32 hours total (8-hour computer class + 2 shifts on unit)
  • Uniform: Navy blue and white scrubs combination

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum of 2 years of Intermediate Care experience, including experience within the last year
  • Neurology experience
  • Experience with ventilators (vents)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience in charge nurse roles

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skills: Triage, ICP monitoring, conscious sedation, charge nurse experience
  • Certifications: CCRN, TNCC, CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including local, federal, national criminal, DOJ sex offender, and education verification
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (30 days if past positive TB)
  • Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training (not required for non-clinical)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative results required)
  • Immunizations/titers required: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination)
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask requirement during flu season
  • Required facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, education roster, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, medication safety training, hospital policies acknowledgment, and annual compliance training
  • Completion of Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation checklist (for NC travel candidates)
  • Corp ID and I-Learn account setup required prior to start, including logging in within 24 hours of password creation and providing proof
  • Photo for badge required (passport style, white background, business attire, no head coverings except glasses)

Testing and Competency Exams

  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 72 hours of start, with a minimum passing score of 82%
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Color blindness testing within 1 year (except non-clinical)

Additional Notes

  • Interview with manager required before offer
  • Must comply with all facility policies and behavioral standards
  • Floating to other units is mandatory
  • Strict adherence to call-off policy is enforced; no RTO allowed after booking
  • Candidates must be prepared for neurological patient care and intermediate medical care
