Description
Registered Nurse - Med Surg
Location: Smyrna, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Overview
- Med-Surg unit with 54 beds, including an 11-bed dedicated ortho/spine unit
- Patient ratios: 1:5-6 for RNs; RN/LPN teams with 10 total staff per team
- Unit staffed with secretaries (weekdays until 8 pm), techs, and externs as available
- Equipment includes Alaris pumps, remote telemetry, continuous pulse oximetry, specialty beds, transfer equipment, wound vacs, chest tubes, NG and feeding tubes
- Documentation system: Meditech
- Scheduling requires at least one weekend shift within a 4-week period; scheduling may be flexible and case-by-case
- Floating within unit discretion
- Patient population includes medical-surgical, orthopedic/spine, trauma, and psych medical hold patients
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- Minimum 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
- Advanced Burn Care Provider (ABCP) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Skills and Experience
- Thorough assessment, prioritization, critical thinking, and time management skills
- Experience with general medical-surgical procedures including post-catheterizations (without intervention), laparoscopic appendectomy/cholecystectomy, thoracentesis/paracentesis, interventional radiology procedures, stable trauma care, hemodialysis/peritoneal dialysis, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, busy Med-Surg and Ortho/Spine unit
