Registered Nurse - Med Surg

Location: Smyrna, Tennessee

Unit Overview

• Med-Surg unit with 54 beds, including an 11-bed dedicated ortho/spine unit
• Patient ratios: 1:5-6 for RNs; RN/LPN teams with 10 total staff per team
• Unit staffed with secretaries (weekdays until 8 pm), techs, and externs as available
• Equipment includes Alaris pumps, remote telemetry, continuous pulse oximetry, specialty beds, transfer equipment, wound vacs, chest tubes, NG and feeding tubes
• Documentation system: Meditech
• Scheduling requires at least one weekend shift within a 4-week period; scheduling may be flexible and case-by-case
• Floating within unit discretion
• Patient population includes medical-surgical, orthopedic/spine, trauma, and psych medical hold patients

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
• Minimum 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
• Advanced Burn Care Provider (ABCP) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Skills and Experience

• Thorough assessment, prioritization, critical thinking, and time management skills
• Experience with general medical-surgical procedures including post-catheterizations (without intervention), laparoscopic appendectomy/cholecystectomy, thoracentesis/paracentesis, interventional radiology procedures, stable trauma care, hemodialysis/peritoneal dialysis, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, busy Med-Surg and Ortho/Spine unit
