Nurse Educator | Neurosurgical ICU
Location: Bozeman, Montana
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
The Nurse Educator develops and implements education and professional development programs for nursing staff, focusing on orientation, competency validation, continuing education, and evidence-based practice support within a neurosurgical ICU setting.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Montana
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a nurse educator, including educator experience within the last year
- Minimum 3 years of health teaching experience or equivalent
- Experience working in a Neurosurgical ICU setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Nursing
- Instructor certification in any American Heart Association discipline, Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Emergency Nurses Pediatric Course (ENPC), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), S.T.A.B.L.E., or TeamSTEPPS
- Certification in Nursing Professional Development or relevant specialty
- At least 1 year experience as a clinical nurse educator or in a staff development role
Essential Job Functions
- Develop, organize, promote, implement, evaluate, and revise nursing professional development activities including orientation, precepting, transition to practice programs, simulations, competency validation, computer-based learning, and continuing education courses
- Serve as nurse planner for approved continuing nursing education units according to professional criteria
- Promote and support evidence-based practice and administer nursing procedure programs
- Complete all required education on time as per regulatory and organizational policies
Schedule & Work Requirements
- 40 hours per week, variable shifts including weekends and after-hours as needed
- May require working beyond standard 40-hour workweek
- On-call duties may be required
- Regular and sustained attendance is essential
Physical Requirements
- Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds
- Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking with good balance and coordination
- Occasional climbing of stairs or ladders
- Frequent twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching above shoulder level, pushing, and pulling
- Continuous fine finger movements and close visual acuity
- Ability to learn new tasks, maintain focus, and make timely decisions independently
Work Environment & Exposures
- Continuous exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation (in imaging areas), chemicals, medications, cleaning products, disinfectants, and infectious diseases
- Emotionally challenging situations involving distressed patients or difficult family interactions
Additional Information
- Candidates must live at least 90 miles away from the facility to be considered
- Facility reserves the right to cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week contract due to low census or unforeseen circumstances
This position requires strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and emotional intelligence skills, with the ability to work varied shifts and handle multiple priorities independently.
