Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVOR
Location: Newark, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) with experience in a hybrid room setting. The role involves circulating primarily, with scrub experience preferred. The position supports a high-acuity, high-volume surgical program performing complex cardiovascular, transplant, and vascular procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in New Jersey
- Minimum 2.5 years of CVOR experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Transplant experience
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Work Schedule
- Shift: Day, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Total hours per week: 36
- On-call: 24 hours on Saturday/Sunday (one weekend per month), plus 8-hour on-call shifts on two weekdays (either 3-11 PM or 11 PM-7 AM)
- Holiday work: Must work 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays as needed by unit
- Call-off policy: Facility allows calling off 1 shift per 2 weeks
Unit Details & Floating
- Primary unit: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR), Hybrid Room
- Scrubs provided by hospital
- Floating to Main OR for orthopedic and general cases, including laparoscopic, gynecological, robotic, orthopedic/neuro, vascular, and pediatric surgeries
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license) required within 48 hours of signing
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start (including alias and multi-level searches)
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine test)
- Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
- Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory prior to start; must be updated annually
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Color vision test if job tasks require color discrimination
- Completion of facility-specific annual education and safety training prior to start
- References: Two within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
- Work history verification for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start, allowing 30-day gaps)
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 72 hours of signing; required within 12 months of start
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for CVOR and adult critical care units; same timing as above
- IV Therapy/Infusion exam required for all RNs except those in OR specialties; must be on file by 6/1/2026
- Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication exams with remediation policy (max 3 attempts)
- Color blind testing within 1 year of start if applicable

- Priority given to candidates who provide screenshots confirming Return to Office (RTO) and schedule requests before offer
- Locals accepted at the same rate
- Floating policy must be completed for every new assignment or site transfer
- Hospital provides advanced technology and multidisciplinary teams in a quaternary teaching hospital setting
