Description

Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry) - Travel/Contract

Location: Towson, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 19:00 - 7:30)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Schedule: Every other weekend required; holiday shifts required as scheduled
Floating: Required within specialty and lower acuity units as needed
On-Call: On-call for low census only (in lieu of call off)


Job Description

  • Adult and geriatric patient population
  • Patient ratio approximately 1:5
  • Common diagnoses include: general medical-surgical conditions, congestive heart failure (CHF), chest pain, cellulitis, osteomyelitis, pancreatitis, post-amputations, small bowel obstruction, atrial fibrillation/dysrhythmias, cancer, and palliative care
  • Special procedures/units: EKGs, drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, Lasix (non-titratable within parameters)
  • Equipment used: telemetry monitors, IV pumps, oxygen, pulse oximeter, vital signs machines, sequential compression devices (SCDs), bed/chair alarms, chest tubes, Foley catheters
  • Block scheduling not accommodated; special scheduling requests must be submitted at application

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (annual update required)
    • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification (as applicable)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SSN trace, nationwide and state-specific searches, education verification
  • Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen (including fentanyl) within 30 days prior to start; instant tests not accepted
  • Health documents:
    • Physical exam within 1 year
    • Fit mask test (N95) within 1 year prior to start
    • Immunizations/vaccinations or proof of immunity for:
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required for units working with children or ED)
      • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters)
      • Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination; series not accepted)
      • Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters)
      • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season)
    • COVID-19 vaccine not required for this location, but documentation or declination collected for tracking
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol, updated annually
  • References: Two supervisory references within 1 year of start (one must be a supervisor/manager; charge RN acceptable if directly supervised)
  • Employment history verification for previous 5-7 years
  • Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreements, badge photo, respiratory protection questionnaire, and job description acknowledgment

Additional Notes

  • Patient care involves telemetry monitoring (Tele) only; no telehealth duties implied
  • Floating and holiday work are mandatory parts of the assignment
  • Compliance documents and certifications must be current and submitted timely to meet start date requirements
  • Block scheduling is not available; scheduling flexibility is limited

This position offers a 13-week travel contract for experienced RNs with telemetry skills, working night shifts in an adult/geriatric medical-surgical setting with a variety of complex diagnoses and telemetry monitoring responsibilities.
