Description
Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Night Shift)
Location
- City: Largo, Maryland
Employment Type
- Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (19:30 - 08:00)
- Every other weekend required
- Holidays required as scheduled
- Floating within specialty as needed
- No scheduled on-call
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of Registered Nurse experience required
- Travel experience required; however, first-time travelers with 5+ years of experience will be considered
Required Licenses and Certifications
- Maryland RN license
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification (must be updated annually)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
Clinical and Technical Skills
- Experience with EPIC charting system required
- Competency exams required as applicable, including:
- Medication/Pharmacology
- Dysrhythmia/EKG
- Age-specific competency
- Color Blind Testing required
Patient Population and Unit Details
- Patient Age Group: All ages
- Average daily census: 140 patients
- Unit beds: 46
- Patient diagnoses commonly seen: Chest Pain, Stroke, Sepsis, Cardiac Arrest, Trauma, Respiratory Illness, Respiratory Arrest
- Special equipment used: Belmont (trauma), Giraffe warmer (neonates), Rapid infuser, Lucas device (cardiac arrests)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4 (up to 1:5 with lower acuity patients)
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types accepted)
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity for:
- TB testing (negative QGOLD/TSPOT or 2-step PPD)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if working with children)
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted)
- Varicella
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved exemption (for 2025-26 season)
- COVID vaccine not required for this location but documentation collected for tracking
Background and Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start; must be updated annually
- Education verification for highest level completed
- Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
- Two supervisory references required within 1 year of start
- Employment application/resume completed within 30 days of start
- Verification of previous 5 years of employment history (attestation accepted if necessary)
- Badge application must be completed within 72 hours of signing contract
- Confidentiality agreement and dress code review required prior to start
Additional Notes
- Weekend and holiday coverage required as scheduled
- Floating within the specialty may be required
- No scheduled on-call duties
- Portfolio Epic Training Test Out available for eligible candidates with recent Epic experience
- Crisis Prevention Institute training ("Calm Every Storm") required unless otherwise specified
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Maryland
- Minimum 3 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
