Description
Registered Nurse - Hospice (Travel/Contract)
Location: Conway, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (5x8 hours)
Job Overview
- Provide and coordinate home nursing care according to physician orders and agency policies.
- Directly supervise and evaluate Home Health Aides and Licensed Practical Nurses/Licensed Vocational Nurses.
- Average patient load: 5-8 patients per day.
- Types of visits include Start of Care, Wound Care, Follow-up Visits, etc.
- Must be willing to travel up to 75 miles from the home clinic; average weekly travel is 50+ miles.
- Weekend rotation minimum once per month; on-call rotation minimum once weekly and once monthly on weekends.
- Charting proficiency required in HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB) and OASIS (for RNs).
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina.
- Minimum 1 year of recent Hospice Palliative Care RN experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Experience in a Home Health setting.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Work primarily involves home visits with periodic office meetings.
- Typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with on-call and weekend rotations as noted.
- Some positions may follow a 4x10 schedule (Friday-Monday), but most are standard 5x8.
- Dress code: Scrubs.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Must complete a comprehensive background check including:
- 7-year history verification, SS trace, county and nationwide searches, sex offender registry, motor vehicle record, and state-specific checks.
- Fingerprinting required if not resident in South Carolina for the past 12 months.
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug test required.
- Health documentation required:
- Physical exam within 12 months confirming good health and no communicable diseases.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- Proof of immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or documented declination.
- COVID-19 vaccination series or documented declination.
- Education verification required for nursing degree.
- Two professional references required.
- Work history verification for at least the last 7 years or two most recent employers.
- Must review and sign multiple compliance and confidentiality documents prior to start and annually if working more than one year consecutively.
Additional Notes
- Locals are accepted at the same rate.
- Mileage reimbursed at IRS standard rate for travel between patient homes (commute to/from first and last patient is not reimbursed).
- Weekend and on-call requirements vary; discuss during interview.
- Contractor may be floated to nearby clinics if patient census is low to maintain hours.
This position is ideal for experienced hospice RNs with recent specialty experience who are comfortable with travel and home health care environments.
