Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Room (ER) – Nights

Location: Sault St. Marie, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

• Provide direct patient care in the Emergency Room setting.
• Triage patients, obtain history and vital signs, and assess patient conditions.
• Independently initiate immediate care in life-threatening situations when a physician is not present.
• Care for both acutely ill and non-acute patients.
• Perform a variety of nursing procedures, assist physicians, and provide physical and psychological comfort to patients and families.
• Provide discharge and follow-up instructions.
• Manage ambulance radio communications and give prehospital care orders as needed.
• Work with sophisticated medical equipment in a high-stress environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform nursing assessments and intervene promptly; participate in care planning.
• Assess patient needs regularly and provide skilled nursing services per physician orders and nursing standards.
• Process physician/provider orders accurately and timely; follow up on medication changes and clarifications.
• Evaluate treatment plan effectiveness and suggest improvements.
• Collaborate with team members to update and revise treatment plans using current information.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current certifications:

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior travel nursing experience is highly preferred.

Work Environment & Additional Details

• Shift: Nights, 12 hours per day.
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4.
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs.
• Electronic Medical Record system: Epic.
• Facility is a Level IV Trauma Center with a focus on rural medicine and high reliability in patient safety.
• Candidates must reside outside a 100-mile radius of the facility (local candidates will not be considered).
• Scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of application; no changes allowed after offer.

This position requires a highly skilled ER nurse capable of working independently in a fast-paced, critical care environment with a commitment to quality and safety.
