Description
ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Shakopee, Minnesota
Shift: Nights, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Float RN position covering SCU and Emergency Department (ED) as needed within scope.
- Average daily census: 5 patients; 8 rooms, 10 beds.
- Weekend work required up to every other weekend.
- On-call status possible as needed.
- No block scheduling; scheduler will accommodate as best as possible.
- Local candidates within 100-mile radius not accepted.
- Pending Minnesota license accepted.
- Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required.
- First-time travel nurses accepted.
- Required certifications: ACLS and BLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross only; RQI accepted; certificate of completion not accepted). CCRN preferred but not required.
- Required clinical skills:
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response: dysrhythmia interpretation and management, multi-system organ failure, 12-lead EKG.
- Thermoregulation experience (hypothermia/hyperthermia).
- IV insulin protocol.
- GI surgery care.
- Chronic and acute renal failure management.
- IV therapy: accessing ports, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care, IV starts.
- Medication administration: continuous IV paralytics/neuromuscular blockade, sedation, emergency meds, procedural sedation, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips.
- Neurological care: stroke management, external ventricular drains, hypothermia protocol, ICP monitoring, lumbar drains, post-neurosurgery care, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury.
- Respiratory/thoracic care: BiPAP/CPAP assistance, chest tube insertion/removal, ventilator care, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, suctioning, ventilator management.
- Professional skills: infection and isolation precautions, PPE use, phlebotomy, surgical wound care including drains and wound vacs.
Facility & Work Environment
- Acute care hospital, Level 3 trauma center.
- Total staffed beds: 63.
- Charting system: Epic (Excellian).
- Scrub color: Navy.
- Free parking in unrestricted spaces.
- Latex-free facility.
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Current RN license for Minnesota (pending license accepted).
- ACLS and BLS certifications (AHA or ARC only).
- Additional certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., CCRN preferred).
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start.
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap (must be administered after age 11; declinations not accepted without approved exemption).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- Measles, mumps, rubella: proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer required; no exemptions for patient-facing roles.
- Hepatitis B: positive IGG titer, proof of series, or signed declination required.
- Varicella: positive IGG titer or 2 vaccines required; no exemptions accepted.
- Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required for 2025-2026 season (declinations accepted).
- OSHA Respiratory Safety clearance required prior to start for fit testing.
- Drug testing not required for client clearance but must be within 1 year if completed.
Background & Screening
- Criminal background check required within 1 year of start date, including Minnesota statewide search and other standard checks.
- Minnesota DHS Net Study Fingerprint clearance required before start; candidates cannot begin with fingerprints pending unless a “more time needed” letter is provided.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 1 year of start.
- Photo for badge must be passport style, forward-facing, shoulders up, on plain background, submitted within 48 hours of contract signing.
Training & Onboarding
- Completion of pre-orientation online modules required within 72 hours of receiving login; modules take 3-9 hours depending on specialty.
- Modules must be completed before clearance to start.
- Skills checklist and medication/pharmacology competency exams required annually.
Additional Notes
- Candidate may be required to float to other units, specifically the Emergency Department.
- Client may cancel up to 3 shifts without penalty; on-call hours do not count toward guaranteed hours.
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific policies and procedures.
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience who is comfortable working nights, floating between units, and managing complex critical care patients in an acute care, Level 3 trauma setting.
