Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR) (Days)

Location: Des Moines, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work in a Level I Trauma Center with 16 OR suites, routinely running 12-14 rooms.
• Patient types include Cardiac/PV, Neuro, Orthopedics (primarily trauma), Robotics, Gynecology, Urology, General, Pediatrics, and Transplants; small volume of ENT and Plastic procedures.
• Expected to scrub or circulate (both preferred).
• Average caseload: 35-50 cases per day with turnovers expected in less than 20 minutes.
• Use of specialized equipment including 3 DaVinci robots, Stealth technology for Neuro navigation, and Synthes or Stryker for ortho trauma.
• Weekend on-call coverage from end of shift Friday until 6:30 AM Monday.
• Floating required across multiple campuses within the region.
• Scrubs provided.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Iowa
• Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
• At least 15 months of total travel nursing experience
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience working with Pediatric patients
• Experience working with Level 2 Trauma patients
• Experience with Epic electronic medical record system

Work Conditions & Additional Information

• Must work 1-2 of 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed.
• Orientation dates available; earlier start dates prioritized.
• Overtime and holiday pay multipliers apply.
• Call back and on-call pay available.
• Billable overtime begins after 40 hours per week.
• Patient ratio typically 1:1 in a 16-bed unit.
• Local radius hiring preference within 50 miles.
• Employee separation policy restricts travel assignments for certain past employees within the last 12 months.
