Description

Certified Surgical Technician (Labor & Delivery) - Contract

Location: State College, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour day shifts (06:45 AM - 07:15 PM), every other weekend, rotating holidays
Hours per Week: 36


Job Summary

  • Assist in the delivery of patient care in the Delivery Room under supervision of a professional nurse, following AWHONN Practice Standards.
  • Function under the supervision of the Nursing Supervisor and circulating nurse as a scrub or assist during surgical procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Apply knowledge of normal and pathologic anatomy and physiology; assist in administration of pharmacologic agents with a registered nurse.
  • Establish and maintain a sterile field; perform gowning, gloving, and surgical scrubbing per policy.
  • Assist with skin preparation, draping, and care of sterile and unsterile supplies.
  • Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and equipment; check sutures and supplies; update surgeons' preference lists.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment; operate sterilizers safely and document accordingly.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of surgical procedures and required instrumentation; perform sharps, sponge, and instrument counts.
  • Anticipate surgeon’s needs to expedite procedures and minimize patient exposure to surgical and anesthetic stress.
  • Respond calmly and efficiently to emergency situations following established procedures.
  • Adhere to Standard Precautions, Infection Control, and Delivery Room policies.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an OB Technician, including experience within the last year.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist with relevant experience.
  • Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM).
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to AWHONN Practice Standards.

Additional Information

  • Work schedule includes every other weekend and rotating holidays.
