Description
Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Beaufort, South Carolina
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Must have ICU experience; traveler will float to ICU as well as stepdown and medical-surgical units.
- Patient ratio approximately 1:4-5.
- Responsible for care of 21 beds including patients on non-titrating drips (Amiodarone, NTG, Cardizem, Lopressor, Cardene).
- Experience with vascular cases (fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy), NSTEMI, post-cardiac catheterization with intervention.
- Care for patients receiving CIWA protocol with IVP Ativan (no Presidex).
- Experience with peritoneal dialysis, stable BiPAP, heated high flow oxygen (<80%), home ventilators (Trilogy), wound care, nebulizers, and hemodialysis in the dialysis department.
- Floating required across stepdown, ICU, and medical-surgical units.
- Uniform: Scrubs in royal blue and white.
- Orientation every Wednesday; every other week (EOW) requirement applies.
- Electronic Medical Record system: Meditech.
- Must be willing to work within a 50-mile radius of the facility.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent Stepdown unit experience.
- ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience.
- ACLS certification.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service.
- Criminal background check within 6 months (or within 30 days for new candidates) prior to start.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals.
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands of the position.
- Immunizations or titers required: Tdap (within 10 years), Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B (positive titer or vaccine series), Varicella. Facility-specific declination forms accepted where applicable.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; TB questionnaire required for positive responders.
- Drug testing: 10-panel within 6 months (or 30 days for new candidates) prior to start; instant tests not accepted.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination required year-round.
- COVID vaccination or facility-specific declination required.
Documentation and Competencies
- Proof of 2 clinical references (hospital evaluations accepted).
- Performance evaluation required if previously completed assignments through any agency.
- Complete employment application/resume.
- Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units.
- NURSYS verification required for RN license.
- Completion of ~81 Relias program modules prior to first shift and orientation (may log up to 8 hours for orientation).
- Facility-specific confidentiality and job description forms must be signed.
- Badge photo required (no hats, sunglasses, filters, or shadows).
Additional Notes
- Floating across multiple units is mandatory.
- Patient care includes managing stable ventilators and dialysis patients.
- Orientation occurs weekly on Wednesdays.
- Night shift schedule with 36 hours per week.
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with floating and managing complex cardiac and critical care patients in a stepdown setting.
