Job Opportunity: Ultrasound Tech - General

Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Pediatric facility experience is required.
  • Must be available to work holidays if the unit needs coverage (e.g., Labor Day weekend).
  • Shifts: Day or evening, with options for 4x10-hour shifts or 5x8-hour shifts.
  • May require up to two weeks of night shifts and up to 4 weekends.
  • Floating between main unit, ER, portables, OR, and ICU.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist, with experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with pediatric patients.
  • Experience in an inpatient setting.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • RDMS-AB (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Abdomen) certification.

Preferred Experience

  • Outpatient, Level I Trauma, teaching hospital, or children’s hospital experience.
  • Experience with EPIC and Rad Net systems.
  • RDMS – pediatric and RVT certifications preferred.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA provider only.
    • RDMS-AB (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer - Abdomen).
  • WA state license required for Ultrasound Techs.
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO certifications are not required for this tech role unless otherwise specified.
  • National certification verification required (primary source online verification).

Work Environment & Unit Information

  • Full general pediatric and vascular lab including DVTs, post PIC lines, IJ lines, peripheral vascular.
  • High volume of emergency department cases (appendicitis, testicular issues).
  • Portable ultrasounds in ICU and ER.
  • Facility includes a full transplant center (liver and kidney) and multiventricular transplants.

Shift Details

  • Typical shift hours: 10 hours per day, 40 hours per week.
  • Shift times example: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM or 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM.
  • Weekend work required up to 4 weeks.
  • Floating to other units as needed.

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check required; must be current within the past year or supplemented as needed.
  • Various background screenings including FACIS 3, county civil, state and national criminal databases, sex offender watch, and sanction searches.
  • E-Verify attestation required.
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start.
  • Physical exam within 1 year.
  • Fit test for respirator use required within 12 months prior to assignment; fit testing on-site is not allowed.
  • TB screening: Negative Qgold/Tspot within 12 weeks of start or 2 PPDs as specified.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity for:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination during flu season (Oct-Mar)
  • COVID vaccine strongly recommended but not required.
  • Respiratory medical clearance required annually for respirator use.

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Pediatric pharmacology competency exam required.
  • Competency exam with minimum 80% score required.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required if floating to PICU, NICU, ER, or similar units.
  • Skills checklists required, including pediatric skills checklist if applicable.
  • Math test administered onsite for all RNs and MAs (not pass/fail; remediation allowed).

Additional Notes

  • Photo for badge required within 72 hours of contract signing; must be on a blue background with no hats or headwear.
  • Modules (training) must be completed prior to start, including Epic test-out modules if assigned.
  • Candidates must be prepared to use both N95 and CAPR/PAPR respirators.
  • Floating between units including ER, ICU, OR, and portables is expected.
  • Meal waiver agreement may be required depending on contract start date and clinical role.

This position is ideal for ultrasound technicians with pediatric and vascular experience who are flexible with shifts, including holidays and weekends, and are comfortable working in a fast-paced pediatric hospital environment with a variety of patient acuities.
