Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – MS/Telemetry Unit

Location

  • Winston Salem, North Carolina

Employment Type

  • Travel/Contract

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Shift & Hours

  • Night shift (4 shifts of 12 hours each; 18:45 to 7:15)
  • 36 or 48 hours per week offered

Unit & Patient Population

  • 41-bed inpatient telemetry unit focused on renal and limb preservation patients
  • Patient diagnoses include ESRD, acute renal failure, vascular procedures, CHF, diabetes, and diabetic foot ulcers
  • Hemodialysis patients treated in a separate dialysis unit; peritoneal dialysis initiated by dialysis team on unit
  • Interdisciplinary team includes hospitalists, RN navigators, RNs, nursing assistants, dietary, PT/OT, and pharmacy

Patient Care Ratios

  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6

Float & Weekend Requirements

  • Float to other units as needed
  • Weekend work every other weekend

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Preferred Certifications

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • NIH Stroke Certification

Orientation & Training

  • 24 hours of orientation (2 shifts with preceptor plus electronic medical record education)
  • Self-scheduling based on unit needs

Technology & Systems

  • Pyxis medication system
  • EPIC electronic health record
  • SBAR communication framework

Dress Code

  • Scrubs not provided; colors allowed are navy or white

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background check within 6 months for clinical candidates
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive TB with appropriate documentation)
  • Required immunizations and titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask requirement during flu season
  • Physical exam and references per travel agency standards (not required by client)
  • Medication Safety training certificate required prior to start
  • Completion of facility-specific education modules and compliance training
  • Photo for badge (passport style, white background, business attire) required immediately after signing contract to avoid start delays
  • Confidentiality agreement and other facility-specific forms must be signed prior to start
  • Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist (approx. 8-10 hours for acute care nurses)
  • Must complete annual compliance and facility-specific mandatory education as applicable

Additional Notes

  • No return-to-office (RTO) after booking allowed; call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation
  • Interview with manager required before offer
  • Candidates must provide proof of logging into facility’s learning platform (I-Learn) within 24 hours of account setup
  • Color blindness testing required within 1 year prior to start
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam must be completed within 72 hours of assignment start
  • Float and weekend requirements are mandatory
  • Radiation badge not required for this unit

This position is ideal for experienced telemetry RNs interested in a focused renal and limb preservation patient population, working night shifts on a travel contract basis in North Carolina.
