Description
Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour nights (typically 3 shifts per week, 18:45 - 7:15)
Hours per Week: 36 (option for 48 hours available)
Job Description
- Fast-paced medical-surgical unit with orthopedic and neuro spine patient population.
- Patient census averages 37 with 39 beds.
- Patient diagnoses include orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical cases.
- Covid patients are cared for on all units unless in ICU.
- Nurses must manage pain effectively for ortho and spine patients.
- Float requirement: Must float to other med-surg units as needed based on census.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend required; missed weekend shifts must be made up on a weekend.
- Block scheduling options available (e.g., Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon).
- No approval for holiday time off (RTO).
- Maximum 7:1 patient ratio only in extreme cases; typical ratio 5-6:1.
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Orthopedics nursing experience.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience in charge nurse roles.
Preferred Qualifications
- ACLS certification.
- Level I trauma experience.
Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
- Background check required within 6 months of start.
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; additional documentation if history of positive TB.
- Required immunizations and titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B. Declinations generally not accepted.
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season; mask required if exempt.
- Photo ID (passport-style photo on white background) required immediately after signing contract for badge creation.
- Must complete facility-specific education modules and annual compliance training prior to start.
- Must complete medication safety training and confidentiality agreement.
- Must complete Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 72 hours of start (minimum 82% score required).
- Must complete color blindness testing within 1 year prior to start.
- Must complete physical exam and other health documents as per travel agency standards.
Additional Notes
- No return to office (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation.
- Travelers must be prepared to float to other med-surg units as needed.
- Strict adherence to weekend and holiday scheduling policies.
- EPIC experience is required for first-time travelers.
- Must complete all onboarding and compliance requirements timely to avoid start delays.
