Description

Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Seattle, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 48


Job Description

  • Work in a high-risk, high-acuity Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit with an average daily census of 15 patients and 500-600 deliveries per month.
  • Float between postpartum and antepartum units; may also float to sister facilities providing Mother/Baby care.
  • Responsibilities include functioning as a Baby Nurse during delivery and providing newborn care until transfer to postpartum.
  • Must be able to circulate in the OR and provide newborn care including eye care, Vitamin K injections, and newborn assessments.
  • Experience with medications such as Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate is required.
  • Use of EPIC electronic medical records and electronic fetal monitoring is mandatory.
  • Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines.
  • Work every other weekend and holidays as needed; pre-approved time off is case-by-case.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Washington.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Experience working with high-risk patients.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Current certifications:
    • BLS issued by American Heart Association or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada
    • PALS issued by American Heart Association or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Must be able to circulate in the OR and provide newborn care including eye care, Vitamin K injections, and newborn assessments.

Additional Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Must have a background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years.
    • Includes SSN trace, death master index, nationwide and county checks, sex offender registry, education verification, and motor vehicle record if applicable.
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
    • Immunizations/vaccinations: TDAP (within 10 years or declination), MMR (2 doses or positive titer), Varicella (2 doses or positive titer), Hepatitis B (vaccination series or declination), Flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted), COVID vaccination record preferred.
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months; must be updated annually.
    • Fit mask test required for travel candidates (updated annually).
    • Respiratory safety clearance required for travel candidates (annual).
  • Drug Testing: 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
  • Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology competency and fetal monitoring competency (EFM) required.
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually for applicable units.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Fast-paced, high-volume L&D unit with 4 operating rooms.
  • Night shift schedule with 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each.
  • Floating between postpartum, antepartum, and mother/baby units required.
  • Pre-approved time off handled on a case-by-case basis.

Prior Travel Experience

  • First-time travel nurses accepted; prior travel experience is not required.

Summary

This is a travel contract opportunity for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with strong high-risk OB experience, capable of working nights in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. Candidates must have current Washington or compact RN licensure, required certifications, and meet strict clinical and background requirements. The role involves newborn care responsibilities and floating between related units.
