Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Issaquah, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in Labor and Delivery with patient diagnoses including labor and preterm labor.
- Unit includes 8 labor rooms and 4 triage rooms.
- Responsibilities include circulating, OB-GYN care, post-op, pre-op, scrub, low risk antepartum, and low risk labor and delivery.
- Special procedures: blood/blood products administration, cardioversion/defibrillation, use of cooling/warming blankets, drains, epidural pumps, PCA pumps, syringe pumps, wound vac, and administration of heparin, insulin, magnesium sulfate.
- Attend all deliveries including high-risk deliveries, GYN surgeries, couplet care, low risk antepartum, and transition nursery.
- Staffing ratio ranges from 1:1 to 1:3.
- Float opportunities available to postpartum and NICU units based on skill set.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel assignment in Labor and Delivery
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring) certification
- AWHONN Intermediate certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic medical record system
Patient Care Environment & Equipment
- Care for laboring patients including low risk antepartum and labor and delivery.
- Use of specialized equipment such as epidural pumps, PCA pumps, syringe pumps, wound vac, and cardioversion/defibrillation devices.
- Participate in all deliveries including high-risk and GYN surgeries.
Staffing & Float
- Typical staffing ratio: 1 nurse to 1-3 patients.
- Float opportunities to postpartum and NICU units depending on skill set.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
- Fit mask test required for travel candidates (updated annually).
- Immunizations and screenings required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years or declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (annual updates required)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with acceptable alternatives
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season
- COVID vaccination documentation preferred (declinations not required)
- 9 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months of start (instant acceptable).
Background & Verification Requirements
- Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- Education verification required for nursing degree.
- NURSYS license verification required.
- Minimum of 2 professional references covering at least 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years.
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years of employment with explanations for gaps or overlaps.
Training & Competency
- Completion of annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via LMS (Workramp).
- Epic training modules must be completed and transcripts submitted.
- Competency exams as applicable, including medication/pharmacology competency and fetal heart rate monitoring assessment or valid EFM certification (AWHONN or NCC).
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID and Social Security card as applicable.
- Float policy acknowledgment required; may be required to float to other nearby facilities.
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for travel candidates.
