Medical Laboratory Technician / Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLT/MLS)

Location: Rockford, Illinois
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night Shift (7 days on, 7 days off)

Job Description

• Perform laboratory testing in hematology, urinalysis, chemistry, blood bank, or microbiology using automated and manual methods.
• Collect patient specimens and utilize the information system for patient orders, sample collection, test results, and documentation.
• Analyze and verify test results for accuracy before releasing information.
• Ensure turnaround times for test results are met and critical results are reported and documented appropriately.
• Conduct quality control, proficiency testing, and troubleshoot quality control results to maintain accuracy and precision.
• Perform preventative maintenance, minor troubleshooting, and calibration of laboratory instruments.
• Participate in method and instrument evaluation and implementation.
• Assist in teaching and training new staff and students.
• Maintain competency in current procedures and acquire competency in new methods.

Required Qualifications

• Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification.
• Minimum of 1 year of Medical Laboratory Technician experience, including experience within the last year.
• Specialty certification or experience in Blood Bank (BB), Hematology (H), or Microbiology (M).
• Qualified to perform high complexity testing according to CLIA 493.1489 standards.

Additional Information

• Night shift schedule with a 7 days on, 7 days off rotation.
