Description
Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Summary
- Night shift (3x12 hours): 18:45 - 07:15
- Patient ratio: 1:6
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Float requirement: May be required to float to a nearby main campus (~32 minutes away)
- No call requirement
- Must be able to work holidays
- Return to work (RTO) after contract: maximum 7 days
- Contract duration accepted: 13-20 weeks
- Contract staff may be assigned to Storm/Hurricane Teams and may be required to report during catastrophic events or disasters
- Unit orientation: 24 hours
- Scrubs: Navy blue or white
Patient Population / Diagnoses
Includes but not limited to:
- Diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy
- GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, congestive heart failure (CHF), urinary tract infection (UTI)
- Various surgical recovery cases, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, failure to thrive
Required Skills & Experience
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Med Surg / Telemetry (2 years of experience)
- Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
- Colostomy/ileostomy management/care
- Pre/Post Hemodialysis Management
- Blood Product Administration
- Central line blood draw
- Phlebotomy
- PICC line management
- Patient-controlled analgesia (PCA)
- Chest tubes - Emerson/PleurEvac
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)

- ACLS

- Post angiogram, post cardiac surgery, post myocardial infarction (MI) care
- IV insulin protocols

Licensing & Testing Requirements
- Must pass EKG/Dysrhythmia competency testing prior to start (minimum 82% score required; three attempts allowed)
- Background check within 6 months required
- Drug screening within 6 months required (9-panel acceptable)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive with appropriate documentation)
- Required immunizations/titers: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Physical exam and references required per travel agency standards
- Color blindness testing within 1 year required
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required for new contracts
- Various facility-specific mandatory trainings and acknowledgements (e.g., confidentiality, medication safety, annual compliance, bloodborne pathogens training)

- Photo ID required for badge creation (passport-style photo on white background, business attire)
- Must complete facility-specific orientation and education modules (approx. 8-10 hours for acute care)
- Must complete annual flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask requirement
- Must complete facility’s electronic learning system setup and provide proof of completion prior to start
- May be required to complete additional modules if assigned to emergency observation or ER holding units
- Radiation badge required only for specific specialties (not applicable here)
