Description
Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract
Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 18:45 - 07:15)
Hours per Week: 36 hours only
Job Overview
- Fast-paced medical-surgical telemetry unit with a target nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6 (may occasionally be 1:7 due to staffing needs).
- Patient population includes gastrointestinal (GI) conditions, blood loss/anemia related to GI tract, infections, some renal patients, post-GI surgery patients, and 10 telemetry beds for cardiac rhythm monitoring.
- Unit typically turns over about one-third of beds daily.
- Floating to other med/surg units/floors as needed is required.
- Weekend work required every other weekend.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina.
- Minimum of 2 years of medical-surgical and telemetry nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- At least 1 year of total travel nursing experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Orientation & Training
- Unit orientation: 36 hours.
- Must complete facility-specific education and compliance training prior to start.
- Must complete medication safety training and other required modules as assigned.
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start.
Patient Care & Unit Systems
- Uses PYXIS medication system, EPIC electronic health records, and SBAR communication framework.
- Scrubs color: Navy and/or white.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check required within 6 months for clinical candidates.
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 6 months of start required.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or proof of past positive with appropriate documentation).
- Measles (Rubeola) immunity via titer or vaccination.
- Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella per standard requirements.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask requirement.
- Physical exam required per travel agency standards (not required by client).
- Photo ID and badge photo required prior to start.
- Must complete confidentiality agreement and hospital policies acknowledgment.
- Must complete annual compliance and facility-specific education modules.
Additional Notes
- No return-to-office (RTO) after booking allowed; call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation.
- No blocked scheduling allowed.
- Only 36 hours per week offered.
- Floating to other units is mandatory as needed.
- Prior travel experience is mandatory due to complexity of the unit.
This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with telemetry skills who thrive in a fast-paced, complex med/surg environment and are comfortable floating and working night shifts.
