Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Battle Creek, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit and Work Environment

• 15-bed LDRP unit with 3 triage bays and 2 operating rooms
• Nurses provide care in antepartum, labor and delivery, OR circulating, scrub nurse, newborn nurse at delivery, and couplet care
• Responsibilities include lab draws and newborn hearing screens (ALGO 5 Machine)
• Must work in all areas of LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)
• Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines
• Weekend requirement: work every other weekend
• Floating: May float within the hospital as sitter or to a nearby facility (~27 miles) when census allows
• No call required
• Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC
• Scrubs provided

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Michigan
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Certifications (must have):

  • ACLS (American Heart Association)
  • BLS (American Heart Association)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • AWHONN Intermediate and/or NCC C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)

Schedule and Contract Details

• No Return to Office (RTO) allowed during the first two weeks of the contract
• Holiday coverage required; flexibility needed for holiday staffing demands

Required Documentation and Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• E-Verify completed per contract requirements
• Proof of name change if applicable (legal documentation)
• Criminal background check within 45 days of start, including lifetime search back to age 18
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• Education verification (copy of highest degree or diploma)
• Michigan Central Registry Clearance (wet signature required) for L&D and pediatric placements
• MI LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start if applicable (not typically for this role unless floating to certain units)
• Complete employment application/resume with full 7 years work history, no gaps
• One professional reference from a supervisor or manager (charge nurse references acceptable)
• Skills checklist updated annually for the applicable unit
• Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Negative TB test (PPD or Q Gold/Tspot) within 30 days of start; if positive, chest x-ray and TB questionnaire required
• Annual TB questionnaire
• Proof of immunizations or positive titers for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
• Hepatitis B titer, series, or facility declination form
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine proof (at least one prior Tdap)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/spiritual exemption (must submit exemption within 48 hours of contract signing if applicable)
• 10-panel drug test including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start (instant/rapid acceptable if 10-panel)
• Fit mask testing required on-site (Honeywell DC365N95HC) with appointment scheduled and documented

Additional Notes

• Training will be provided for newborn infant hearing screens
• Floating may include sitter duties and coverage at a nearby facility
• No call responsibilities
• Must be flexible with holiday scheduling and weekend rotations
