Description
Medical Surgical Float Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Huntington, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- Strong orthopedic nursing experience preferred.
- Floating within scope of practice to meet facility needs is required.
- No call requirement.
- Weekend requirement: Must work 4 Saturdays and 4 Sundays within an 8-week schedule cycle.
- Block scheduling is generally not accommodated, but attempts may be made.
- Travelers may request standard or holiday time off (only one of the three major holidays), subject to approval.
- Local candidates within 50 miles are not accepted.

Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience within the last year.
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Background and Screening Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service.
- 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually.
- Background check within 30 days of start; international background check if applicable.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals.
- Drug screen within 30 days of start, including a comprehensive panel of substances.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Initial physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands.
- Onsite N95 fit mask testing; male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit test.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility requirements; QGold or T-Spot within 6 months, updated annually.
- Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis A (total antibody within 6 months)
- Hepatitis B (titer and vaccination series or declination form)
- Hepatitis C antibody within 6 months; if positive, quantitative RNA PCR required.
- Seasonal flu vaccine required annually by October 31 through April 30; medical or religious exemptions require approval and documentation.
- COVID-19 seasonal vaccine required; declination form required if opting out.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Completion of facility orientation, annual education, and attestation forms prior to start.
- Confidentiality agreement and IT access agreement must be completed before starting.
- Religious and medical exemption forms for flu and COVID vaccines must be submitted and approved prior to start if applicable.
- TB screening questionnaire required.
- Hepatitis B declination form required if declining vaccine.
- Candidates must create an account for timekeeping prior to start.

- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required.
- Skills checklist and competency exams required and must be updated annually.
- Performance evaluations required if previously worked with the staffing agency for over 1 year.
