Description
Scrub Tech (Contract)
Location: Bangor, Maine
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day Shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (06:45 AM – 07:15 PM) with call rotation
Hours per Week: 36
Job Summary
- Work under direct supervision of a surgeon to facilitate safe and effective invasive surgical procedures.
- Ensure operating room safety and proper functioning of equipment.
- Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgery.
- Understand the surgical procedure and anticipate surgeon’s needs.
- Responsibilities include:
- Checking supplies and equipment before procedures.
- Scrubbing, gowning, and gloving self, surgeon, and assistants.
- Performing counts with circulator before operation and before incision closure.
- Assisting in draping the sterile field.
- Passing instruments to the surgeon during the procedure.
- Maintaining highest standards of sterile technique.
- Assisting with terminal cleaning of the room.
- Cleaning and preparing instruments for sterilization.
- Preparing the surgical suite for the next patient.
- Assist in training new employees and students in the scrub tech role.
- Not permitted to function as circulating nurse, first assistant, administer medications, or complete patient records.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist with at least 3 years of experience.
- Recent Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the last year.
- Certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
- A certificate or diploma from a trade or technical school.
Additional Information
- Up to 16 hours of orientation (unpaid).
- The facility may cancel up to 3 shifts during the 13-week contract.
- Local travelers living within 50 miles of the facility may receive adjusted compensation.
