- Number of beds: 35
- Staff per shift:
- Day: 2 charge nurses, 24 RNs, 5 surgical techs, 1 OR aide, 1 transport tech, 1 secretary, 1 scheduler
- Night: 2 charge nurses, 21 RNs, 4 surgical techs, 1 OR aide, 1 secretary
- Patient ratios:
- Laboring: 1:1 or 2:1
- Antepartum Unit (APU): 2:1
- Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU): 2:1
- Equipment used:
- Hill-Rom birthing beds
- Alaris IV pump
- GE core metrics fetal monitor
- Panda warmer
- CADD Solis epidural pumps
- NOVI wireless fetal monitor
- Electronic Medical Records (EMR):
- Centricity Perinatal (CPN)
- Meditech
Typical Procedures
- Vaginal delivery
- Cesarean sections
- PACU recovery
- Antepartum care and testing
- Continuous electronic fetal monitoring
Certifications & Licenses Required
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery nursing experience within the last year
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Preferred Skills
- OR circulation experience for cesarean sections
- Placement of fetal scalp electrode (FSE) and intrauterine pressure catheter (IUPC)
Work Schedule & Dress Code
- Typical hours per week: 36

Additional Unit Information
- 13-bed Maternal Assessment Center for triage of pregnant patients
- 24/7 ancillary services including anesthesia, neonatal, laborist, and hospitalist support
- Unit follows protocols for Pitocin and cervical ripening, magnesium sulfate, hydralazine, and labetalol administration
- Baby Friendly Designation
